Camp Directors

Position Summary:

The Camp Director plans, implements and supervises all camp programs in accordance with YMCA and Massachusetts Department of Health regulations and operating standards.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 21 and (1) Have successfully completed a course in camping administration such as those offered by national professional camping associations, national agencies or their equivalent, or (2) Have a least two seasons previous experience as part of the administrative staff of a recreational camp for children.
  • Certifications: CPR, Basic First Aid & AED.
  • Previous supervisory experience, including staff scheduling and training preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Excellent human relation skills, good organizational and communication skills.

Unit Directors 

Position Summary:

Responsible for overseeing a specific camp unit, assisting with the planning, development, and implementation of all activities as well as the supervision of campers.  Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18 and have and (1) have at least four weeks experience as a participant in a structured group camping and/or at least four weeks experience in a supervisory role with children; or (2) have satisfactorily completed a camp counselor orientation program prior to the arrival of campers.
  • Previous experience in camping, recreation, teaching, childcare, or physical education.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting
  • Must have knowledge of crafts, group games, and sports.
  • Excellent human relation skills, good organizational and communication skills.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Program Specialists

Position Summary:

Provides direct supervision of a group of participants in program area.  Provides a quality experience to participants focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 18.
  • High School/GED required with some college preferred.
  • Certifications:  Appropriate professional certifications as required, ie. ropes, aquatics, etc.  CPR, Basic First Aid and AED within 90 days of employment.
  • Previous experience working with children, if applicable.
  • Excellent human relation skills, good organizational and communication skills.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Counselors 

Position Summary:

Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp.  Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 16 and (1) have at least four weeks experience as a participant in a structured group camping and/or at least four weeks experience in a supervisory role with children; or (2) have satisfactorily completed a camp counselor orientation program prior to the arrival of campers.
  • Must be at least three years older than the campers whom they supervise.
  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, music, drama, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

Camp Nurse

Position Summary: Under the general direction of the Camp Director, the Camp Nurse oversees the health and health forms for seasonal campers.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 21 and (1) Have successfully completed a course in camping administration such as those offered by national professional camping associations, national agencies or their equivalent, or (2) Have a least two seasons previous experience as part of the administrative staff of a recreational camp for children.
