Emergency Child Care Programs

YMCA Cape Cod is EXPANDING Exempt Emergency Child Care Programs for ALL essential workers starting Wednesday, April 1.

  • Available ONLY for parents/guardians who are essential workers as defined by Governor Baker:
  • There is no cost to families for this service.
  • Programs will operate 7 days a week, until further notice.
  • Childcare hours are DROP IN from 6 am to 11 pm at the following YMCA Cape Cod childcare locations:
    1. Falmouth Hospital Campus, 67B Ter Heun Drive, Falmouth
    2. North Falmouth Congregational Church, 155 Old Main Road, North Falmouth
    3. Lyndon P. Lorusso YMCA, 2245 Iyannough Road, West Barnstable
    4. Harwich Elementary School, 263 South Street, Harwich
    5. Stony Brook Elementary School, 384 Underpass Rd, Brewster
  • Each location will accept a maximum of 40 children at any given point in time.  If we reach capacity and a child is picked up, we will take the next child in line.  Siblings will remain together as much as possible.
  • Children can be as young as 13 weeks and as old as 12 years
  • FREE breakfast, lunch, dinner and 3 snacks per day will be served.
  • There is no need to pre-register; however all parents must complete information forms available on the YMCA Cape Cod website: To reduce wait time at drop-off, parents are asked to fill out the forms in advance of dropping off their children.
  • Parents MUST stay in their car at drop-off.
  • All children and staff will be temperature checked at the time of drop off. Be prepared for wait time. Temperature checks will operate on-going throughout the hours of operation.
  • Childcare staff have been specially trained in health protective measures per Center for Disease Control (CDC) protocols.
  • CDC cleaning protocols and more will be followed prior to opening, after closing, and during the day.

We have tried to answer as many anticipated questions as we can on our website.  Due to staffing shortage, we deeply regret that we are not able to accommodate phone calls or emails.

COVID-19 Closures

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the YMCA Cape Cod must make the difficult decision to close all programs and services. Future program closures will be determined on a weekly basis.  By government order, the YMCA wellness facilities (pools, group classes, & fitness center) will be closed through at least May 18th (updated April 29th per governor’s extension).  Information will be posted on our website, Facebook page, and central phone message by noon each Friday. We know cutting off critical services such as food programs and child care for families in essential work roles puts great pressure on our community. We are actively pursuing options to provide limited services to essential workers such as health workers, first responders, and government employees, if needed. We will communicate these decisions as they are determined. Please check our website and Facebook page for updates.

We are hopeful that as many of our members and program participants as possible maintain their memberships and program fees as we navigate the unknown future together.

COVID-19 Billing Information FAQ’s  

We are suspending all child care payments, going forward, for those not receiving services, until we reopen for regular operations.  Any payments from parents/guardians received to date, while we have been closed, will be credited towards future weeks of care.  At no charge, your child’s slot will be secure with no re-registration fee.  We sincerely hope this news eases any financial burden our child care families may have been experiencing or worrying about.  If you are in the position to continue any amount of payment as a donation to the YMCA Cape Cod we would greatly appreciate this gesture.  Simply email our Finance Office at, and we will send a donation letter for tax purposes to reflect your generosity.  Please see above information about our Emergency Child Care Programs.  Please visit our website,, frequently for updates.

In these unprecedented times we empathize with the emotional stress each of you may be feeling. So many questions of uncertainty leave us all feeling fearful and anxious. We anticipate one of the top worries on many people’s minds revolves around financial stability for yourselves, your families, your workplace, retirement funds, and more. Action Alert: Ask Your Rep to Sign a Bipartisan Letter to Support Nonprofits Like the Y!

The bipartisan Senate letter is co-authored by Sen. Angus King (I-ME) and Sen. James Lankford (R-OK). The priorities are to:

  • Expand Nonprofit Access to Relief and Support:Expand the eligibility for nonprofits to participate in the Paycheck Protection Program by modifying the current 500-employee cap or by other means. Adjust Economic Stabilization Fund or other mechanisms to implement programs to support nonprofit employers with between 500 and 10,000 employees. Provide clear guidance and maximum flexibility to private lenders to prioritize processing the applications of charitable nonprofits.
  • Unemployment Insurance Reimbursement:Treat self-funded nonprofits fairly by increasing the federal unemployment insurance reimbursement for self-funded nonprofits to 100% of costs. As currently written Section 2103 of the CARES Act will subject nonprofits throughout the country to crippling payments to their state unemployment systems later this year, while other employers will likely experience little or no additional costs resulting from mass COVID-19-related layoffs. The impacts will be real. States will be greatly challenged to distinguish among employers in an already overburdened system due to the unprecedented surge in new applicants. Many nonprofits will be hit with a bill for reimbursement to states at a time when they will be in the highest demand for providing services. This could actually inhibit nonprofits’ ability to perform.
  • Strengthen Charitable Giving Incentives:Encourage donations to the work of charitable organizations in their communities by enabling taxpayers making donations on and after March 13 (date of national emergency declaration) and before July 16 to claim the deductions on their 2019 tax filings. This retroactive application should apply to itemized and above-the-line deductions during this critical period to encourage an influx of donations when these nonprofits need them most. Also, enhance the Above-the-Line Deduction in the CARES Act by increasing the $300/person cap and extending the effective date of the incentive.
