YMCA Cape Cod hires new Chief Operating Officer
The YMCA Cape Cod has hired a new Chief Operating Officer, Steve Telesmanick. Steve will begin his new role on January 30th. Steve grew up in Connecticut. He learned how to swim at the Southington Y and was part of the Y’s teen program during his high school baseball team’s off-season.
Steve studied Hospitality Management at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI and returned to his alma mater to receive his MBA in Organizational Leadership. Steve worked for Marriott Hotels for over 8 years where he attended their Leadership Development Program. During his years at Marriott, he held multiple operational leadership roles in various hotels and departments.
Steve joined the YMCA of Greater Boston in 2009 as Executive Director of the Charlestown YMCA, a branch that runs a 147 room hotel, The Constitution Inn. The hotel also has a 10 bed program for women in recovery that offers social supports during their recovery and assists them in finding permanent housing. During his nearly 8 years as Executive Director, Steve facilitated the growth of the Y’s membership from 800 units to nearly 3,000 units, turning the branch’s deficit around to $1M in net revenue. Steve grew the Annual Campaign from $5,000 a year to over $150,000 in 2016. With his years of experience at Marriott, Steve translated his customer service expertise to the Y when he helped create innovative membership service standards for his entire Y team.
Steve’s proudest accomplishment was developing and implementing the Charlestown Y teen program; a program similar to the one he grew up participating in as a teenager himself. The program has since engaged over 250 teens in the Charlestown community in constructive activities giving them a safe place to grow and thrive during out of school time.
